FOUR LISTENING POINTS IN DONOSTIA
(Yannick Dauby)

Some listening situations in Donostia, Spain.

Guided by a small group of sound artists, during a workshop organized by the Audiolab in Arteleku (23-25 April 2008).

1. The Siren

Everyday in the center of the city, at noon, one can listen a very short alarm call coming from the top of the building of "Orlogeria internacional". A kind of sonic advertisement.

2. The Wind Comb

Nearby Monte Igeldo, is an "artistic space" realized by the sculptor Eduardo Chillida. On the floor, a few strange nostrils makes some scary breathes, air pressions provoked by the biggest waves arriving at the entrance of tunnels.

3. The Funicular

If you have to climb on the Monte Igeldo, it can be interesting for your ears to take a ride using the wooden "funnycular". But are you allowed to record the sound of it ?

4. Isla Santa Clara

After five minutes of a tremendous boat trip, one can arrive on this tiny island, and have a sound walk. On the top of the hill, the surrounding and powerful sounds of the ocean become a quiet low drone. Below, the rocks are the kindgoms of Larus argentus.
